CRISTO REDENTOR

Cristo Redentor is famous monument is located in Río de Janeiro in the world-wide know mount of Corcovado with 710 meter of height, this big statue is one of the best atraction of the place. It was constructed by Hector da Silva Costa with the collaboration of Paul Landowsky, between 1926 and 1931.

The true history stars in 1921 in the meeting of the Catolic Circle of Río when was discussed the ceation of a monument for the commemoration of centenary of the Independence of Brazil. The original idea was to construct to Christ with a cross in its hand but tehy decided that the croos was the own Christ with its arms extended.

The church paid all the expenses of the constuction with a national collect. Its inauguration was on 1931. For the occasion the illumination of the Christ was in charge Guglielmo Marconi, Italian electrotechnic engineer awarded with Nobel de Física and inventor of the first system of signals of remote radio by means of directional antennas.
